Cucumber Is Fantastic Rosacea Remedy

An English herbalist by the name of John Gerard, long ago in 1597, discovered the health giving properties of cucumber that we generally take as a part of salds or sandwiches. He recommended a diet of cucumber soup in oatmeal to be consumed thrice a day for combating blistering and pimply complexion. Since then there have been many unrecorded evidences to suggest the helpful effects of this common vegetable in having a control over facial redness and swelling of rosacea. Here, let’s try to know how and why is a cucumber helpful in treating rosacea and how to use it for maximum benefits.

History of cucumber

Cucumis Sativus is the botanical name of cucumber. It is one of the oldest plants known to mankind and is believed to have been cultivated in southern India for the last about 4000 years. It also find reference in Bible (Number 11:5) when the children of Israel, while leaving Egypt, bemoaned that they had memories of cucumbers, leeks, onions, melons and garlic that they could eat freely. For generations it has continued to be a favorite vegetable for Greeks and Romans. It may be interesting to add here that since Victorian times the upper English class would serve cucumber sandwiches as a part of the evening tea and even today The Queen of England continues to patronize this vegetable at the garden parties held at Buckingham Palace.

Benefits of cucumber

Cucumber is a natural astringent with cooling and moisturizing properties that enable it to be an excellent substitute for many of the man-made creams and lotions for facial treatment. Its flesh, though primarily comprising of water, also has vitamins A, C, E and caffeic acid. All these are known to provide a soothing effect to irritations of the skin and help reduce the swelling of eyes. That’s why it is recommended to keep slices of cucumber on swollen eyes to get relief from swelling. Its outer skin is rich in minerals like potassium, magnesium, and silica. Silica is an important component of healthy connective tissue that contributes to having a clear and radiant skin.

How to use cucumber for rosacea

There are many ways in which you can use cucumber on the skin for getting relief from redness and swelling on the face. One simple recipe is too puree many slices of cucumber and add two or three spoonfuls of yogurt to the puree. Apply the final concoction on the face, like you would apply a facemask and leave it there for about ten minutes before finally washing it off with cold water.

Another simple way is to straightaway place slices of chilled cucumber on the affected area for ten to fifteen minutes. This reduces redness and swelling. This application is particularly helpful in the cases of ocular rosacea.

Now, here is a recipe believed to have been used by Cleopatra for an improved beauty and may prove helpful for rosacea. In a blender have a whole cucumber with half a glass of cream and add one spoonful of olive oil, mud and honey and blend all the ingredients. The mixture should be stored in a refrigerator for repeated use. On a clean face massage the mixture into the skin and let it dry. Let it remain there for as long as you feel comfortable. For this recipe try using Manuka honey, known to be very beneficial for healing skin and Dead Sea mud that is full of minerals.

Hopefully you realize now that cucumber not only offers benefits while taken internally, but also is of great help if applied externally for treating disorders of the skin.

Natural Skin Care And Acne Rosacea Treatments

The medical science is not in position to define the cause and therefore the exact treatment for this suffering often caused to many a people. Available statistical data suggests that a large number of sufferers have a fairer skin and the other statistical conclusion points that middle aged people often fall prey to this malady. Genetic connection can’t be ruled out.

Quite a few treatments are available for acne rosacea, but there is insufficient clinical evidence for a sure treatment. Yet, certain things known for sure are noted here and if you happen to be sufferer, you must discuss with your medical specialist the possibilities of undergoing different treatments and the factors that might be contributing to it.

Antibiotics offer the first line of defense and are often helpful in treating acne rosacea. The antibiotics most often prescribed include Retin A(TM) and Metrogel(TM) with anti-inflammatory properties. Another oral antibiotic known to bring relief in certain cases is Tetracycline.

Some of the natural food products like barley, rye and wheat that are rich in atelic acid are known to have provided effective control of acne rosacea, and as simple acne in many cases. Clinical studies also point out that in some cases in cases of acne the topical application of a prescribed cream with 20% content of atelic acid proved to be helpful in treatment of this disease.

Blood cleansers based on herbal formulation may be helpful for treating acne rosacea. But, again the scientific date is inconclusive. Yet, anecdotal repots point out that burdock root, cleavers, red clover blossoms, and yellow dock proved effective in treating acne rosacea. As these blood cleansers are known to flush out toxins from the body, it would be worth talking to your specialist or a professional naturopath before trying them out.

The role of vitamin B complex in managing of acne rosacea is very perplexing, to say the least. Patients of acne rosacea on being prescribed supplements of vitamins B6 and B12 reported worsening of condition. At the same time it has been observed that many of the patients of acne rosacea have had a deficiency of accepted levels of stomach acid. Such patients definitely showed positive signals on being fed with supplementary doses of balanced B complex. That certainly calls for more research and clinical studies to conclude the effects of vitamin B for treatment of acne rosacea.

Likewise the dietary evidence is as questionable and doubtful as the rest of the contributing factors. Though alcoholic beverages cold add to reddening of skin, there is no conclusive study to confirm that alcohol is the cause of it. It has also been observed that at times consumption of spicy dishes and hot beverages unfavorably affect the sufferers of this malady. It is best to refrain from consumption these items in your intake. Let’s hope that further research on the subject discovers ways and means that prove fruitful in the management of acne rosacea thru controlled and prescribed diet.

It is experienced that adverse conditions may get triggered by: even at ambient temperatures, exposure to sun, extremely hot or cold temperatures, and the temperature of water used for bathing. Though the present research is very meager, it indicates that temperature of food and environments has something to do with it.

Effective treatment acne rosacea calls for a good communication between the sufferer and the physician. Don't venture into any self-prescribed treatment. Remain optimistic, in due course of time the medical sciences will surely find a solution to the problem.

Rosacea Treatment Basics

Rosacea is a disorder of the skin that may be caused on any type of skin. In many cases it may cause irritation in the delicate area around the eye or the eye itself.

On developing an eye infection, one should observe hygiene of the eyelid.
It includes frequent washing of the affected area with the prescribed solution and application of warm compresses many times a day. Its not so severe cases are reported to have subsided by keeping away from stressful and traumatic conditions. The National Rosacea Society recommends that a patient suffering from this malady should maintain a diary that would prove helpful in recognition and subsequent treatment of situations that may trigger it.

Certain patients may be given oral antibiotics like tetracycline, Doxycycline and Minocycline. Topical antibiotics of the kind of Metronidazole, maybe administered to provide relief from swelling and partial redness. Generally oral antibiotics should be able to provide relief from Ocular Rosacea, but continued symptoms may at times demand prescription of Isotretinoin. But, we know that continued and prolonged use of antibiotics have unhealthy side effects.

Treatment of flushing and swelling of the face with Clonidine may cause sleepiness and could lower the blood pressure. Monoxidine, another popular alternative, doesn’t prove to be as efficient. It’s of utmost importance to know the cause of flushing. For instance consumption of red wine or other food products with a high content of histamine may be the cause. In such cases recommending antihistamines such as Zyrtec or Claritin might prove to be helpful.

An effective treatment of Rosacea is thru the application of single wavelength or broad range laser machines. The equipment uses light rays that penetrate thru the epidermis and mark the capillaries in the dermis layer of the skin. The heat so generated goes to damage these vessels that are subsequently absorbed by the in-built defense mechanism of the human body. Sometimes CO2 are employed to get rid of surplus tissues caused by Phymatous Rosacea.
